Class Title: ENVIRONMENTAL: Safe Spaces: Know What’s in the Walls
Class Description: This environmental-focused class equips maintenance teams with practical steps to prevent, identify, document, and respond to common health-and-safety concerns in apartment homes—especially moisture, mold, water damage, and indoor air quality. Attendees will learn how water intrusion typically occurs, why moisture quickly turns into structural damage and mold risk, and the best practices for reporting and controlling issues early. The course covers mold awareness (what it is, warning signs, and health considerations), how to properly document and contain suspected growth, and the basics of safe response protocols—including when remediation must be outsourced versus when limited, minor cleanup may be appropriate with correct PPE and containment to prevent cross-contamination. The class also addresses water extraction and structural dry-out fundamentals (response steps, equipment, and repair considerations), IAQ basics for apartment technicians (HVAC filtration and ventilation, routine maintenance actions that improve IAQ), and lead-based paint awareness for pre-1978 housing, including exposure risks and EPA RRP safe-work and notification requirements.
Reminder: Doors open at 8:30am—please plan to arrive on time. Breakfast/lunch sponsorship details will be emailed to registrants 1–2 days prior with updates so they know whether they need to bring their own meal.
Class Size: Limit to 30 attendees
Sponsorship: Breakfast and Lunch Sponsorships available -- company sponsoring should provide food for 30 people.
