      A. The Education Committee works to create an education schedule that will be beneficial to the professional viability and success of our members. Members of this committee research and develop educational courses and seminars, and volunteer time at educational events and seminars. The co-chairs are Courtney MacDermid (cmacdermid@colonialprop.com) and Kymberly Mentz (dorchester@amcs-inc.com). When does the Education Committee meet?
The Education Committee meets on the first Thursday of each month at 11:30 a.m.  The location is always within a restaurant at Tanger Outlets in North Charleston.  If you are interested in joining us, please e-mail one of the chairs for the next meeting location.

      What is Maintenance Mania®?
Maintenance Mania® is a national competition where maintenance technicians are able to compete against each other in various skill-based games.  The games are focused on frequent maintenance issues, plus one race car building competition.

CAA holds an event for maintenance technicians to compete and win local prizes and awards.  The local winners then have a chance to compete at the National Championship held at the annual NAA Educational Conference & Exposition.

This year’s event is planned for November 16, 2010.  Check the website for details!

      What is a national designation?
Education programs and designations of the National Apartment Association Education Institute (NAAEI) are the premier offerings for multifamily housing professionals. NAAEI's professional designations are a recognized and respected mark of excellence throughout the industry.  Each course and program has been carefully crafted and tailored to meet the changing needs of today's multifamily housing professional.

The following designations are available:  National Apartment Leasing Professional (NALP), Certified Apartment Manager (CAM), Certified Apartment Maintenance Technician (CAMT), Certified Apartment Portfolio Supervisor (CAPS), and CAS (Certified Apartment Supplier).

Please contact the Education Committee for upcoming classes.

I am a member of CAA.  How do I become a member of NAA or SCAA?
You are already a member!  By participating at the local level (CAA), you are automatically a member of the South Carolina Apartment Association (SCAA) and the National Apartment Association (NAA).

      LEAD Committee FAQs

For LEAD it may be a little different, but maybe we can use these of F&Q’s:
      1. What can I expect to gain from the L.E.A.D. program?  The primary goal of the L.E.A.D. program is to train and cultivate participants for future committee members, committee co-chairs and/or CAA Board Members.   You can also expect to meet and interact with lots of industry professionals who are passionate about the Association.
      2. Who can participate in the L.E.A.D. program?  Anyone!  If you want to learn and become more active in Association, can commit time to the program and have your supervisor’s support, L.E.A.D. could be for you!
      3. I work full-time but am very interested in the L.E.A.D. program.  How often will I need to be out of my office? L.E.A.D. participants rotate through the various Association committees attending one meeting per month, as well as the regularly scheduled dinner meetings.  To learn more about the Association and experience the full benefits of the program, you also be asked to attend one board meeting per year.
